Harry Kewell is looking forward to playing in what he considers to be his first final for Liverpool - with the Champions League glory of last season almost a thing of the past.
Kewell was a forlorn figure when he trudged off Istanbul's Ataturk Stadium through injury after just 23 minutes of the Reds' showdown with AC Milan nearly a year ago.
Even though Liverpool went on to win the final in the most dramatic of circumstances, coming from 3-0 down to lift the trophy following a penalty shoot-out, Kewell's memories of that night are tainted.
And even though he also played for 56 minutes of the Carling Cup final defeat to Chelsea in February last year, that too has been put to the back of his mind.
Now, after a season in which Kewell has been virtually back to his best, Saturday's FA Cup final against West Ham in Cardiff would appear to represent a game of salvation and redemption.
"When you look at it and considering what happened in Istanbul, this is really going to be my first final and I just hope that everything goes well. I just want to be a big part of it," said Kewell.
"Even now, people still remind me of what happened in the Champions League final. It's one of those things, but you have to forget about the past and turn the corner.
"Even though it was still a lovely moment to be part of, in terms of the club winning the Champions League, on a personal note it wasn't that good.
"But now we have this really big game coming up with West Ham and it gives me the chance to make my own personal milestone by playing in a final.
"There was never any doubt in my mind I would get another chance to play in a cup final with Liverpool.
"The club is always moving forward and when you play at a big club like Liverpool, you know that you have to get to cup finals."
Australia winger Kewell knows he has manager Rafael Benitez to thank for the about-turn in his career as there are many fans who felt he had not previously been giving his all.
But with the injuries now behind him, and with the 27-year-old tuned into Benitez's work ethic, he is producing the goods.
