Ireland Under-15 squad named

The Republic of Ireland’s Under-15 team manager, Vincent Butler, has named an 18-player squad for the Villa De Santiago Teide International Tournament which takes place in Tenerife on May 12 and 13.

The Republic will play against the Canary Islands selection on Friday, May 12 before facing Spain on Saturday, May 13.

It is the start of a busy period for the squad, as they also play a double-header against Turkey in Dublin on May 16 and May 18.

“This is the third season in a row that we have played in the tournament in Tenerife and in the previous two seasons, it has been of great value to the development of the squad” Butler said, “All 18 players will play over the course of the two games in Tenerife.”

Ireland have already had games against Holland and Slovenia and Butler believes that the games over the next six weeks will go a long way to preparing the squad for next season.

Butler continued, “This is potentially a very good squad. As well as the Tenerife tournament, we have two games against Turkey and two more double-headers against both Wales and Northern Ireland on the June Bank Holiday weekend. We have eight games to play and we’ll try out a lot of new players over these matches.”

National Cup holders Crumlin United have the largest representation in the squad with six players, including highly-rated duo Conor Clifford and Gavin Gunning.
