Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko has been sidelined with minor knee ligament damage just a month before the World Cup.

Shevchenko was forced to leave the pitch just eight minutes into AC Milan's 3-2 league victory at Parma on Sunday.

Tests have since confirmed that Shevchenko sprained his left knee and has a minor ligament injury.

"The player doesn't need surgery but will only be able to return to play in 25 days' time," said a statement on the club's official website.

Shevchenko will miss next weekend's crucial league clash against Roma but should return in time for Ukraine's first World Cup game against Spain on June 14.
