Irish Under-21 manager Don Givens is hoping that Brentford secure an automatic promotion berth from League One today so striker Jay Tabb will be available for next Thursday’s UEFA qualifier away to Azerbaijan.
If the Bees fail to go up automatically Tabb will be withdrawn from the panel.
Givens said: 'We will finalise our squad for Azerbaijan tomorrow morning when we will have a clearer picture on injuries and availability.'
'But we will know today if Jay is available because if Brentford get promoted he will be in the squad but if not he will be involved in the play offs and will be unavailable.'
The U-21s are facing a tough test according to Givens who watched Azerbaijan in Tiblisi against Georgia recently.
He added: 'They are a decent side and we will have our work cut out over the two games.'
The return leg is in Buckley Park, Kilkenny, on 19 May.
If Ireland advance, they will meet Belgium and Greece over two days starting on 3 September.
Paul McShane, Glen Whelan, and Stephen Ireland have already withdrawn from the squad through injury.
They have been replaced by Stephen Bradley, Rene Gilmartin, Keith Keane and Richard Keogh.
Revised squad: D Quigley, R Gilmartin, K Foley, S Bradley, A Bruce, M Painter, J Hand, W Flood, G Dicker, M Timlin, K Keane, J O'Brien, D Potter, R Keogh, A McGeady, A Keogh, S Ward, J Tabb.
