Alex Ferguson could pair Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha in attack as Manchester United look for the victory required to seal runners-up spot in the Barclays Premiership against Middlesbrough.

With Wayne Rooney definitely missing, Ferguson is likely to choose both the men who have been vying for a place in United's starting line-up recently.

The United boss expects to have Gabriel Heinze available after a minor groin strain and, after Mikael Silvestre's poor performance at Stamford Bridge, the Argentinian could start, although Patrice Evra is also a possibility in the left-back role.

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren is likely to make a series of changes for his side's third of five games in 11 days against United.

McClaren made nine alterations to his line-up, drafting in a number of Academy graduates, for the UEFA Cup finalists' Barclays Premiership clash with Everton.

A number of senior players could return with the likes of Chris Riggott, Frank Queudrue, Stuart Parnaby, George Boateng, Fabio Rochemback, Massimo Maccarone and Stewart Downing back in contention.

Gareth Southgate and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink may be given longer to rest hamstring injuries while Mark Viduka has also had a slight thigh problem.
