Former Everton great Labone dies

Former Everton and England defender Brian Labone has died aged 66, the club have confirmed.

Labone, one of the greatest players in Everton's history, was capped 26 times for his country and played in the 1970 World Cup.

He was reportedly found dead at around 11.30pm last night.

Labone's playing career was ended in the 1970-71 season through injury but the Liverpudlian, who was also Toffees captain, remained close to the club working in a commercial capacity.

He made 534 appearances for the club and scored two goals between 1957 and 1971 and was only booked twice.
