Shelbourne owner and chief executive Ollie Byrne has ruled out any investment in the club from controversial Italian lawyer Giovanni Di Stefano.

In a letter sent to Di Stefano this morning, Byrne revealed that Di Stefano's decision to leak details of his interest in investing in Shelbourne to the press, before talking to the club, was behind the move to rule out any further involvement with the Italian.

However, a statement from Shelbourne spokesman Gareth Penrose confirmed that the Reds are still interested in talking to other potential investors.

"Suggestions of involvement in the club from local interests have flowed through in the past few days and Shelbourne FC is deeply grateful for that interest. All these approaches will be pursued," the statement confirmed.

The news will come as a relief to many Shelbourne supporters who had expressed concern at the prospect of Di Stefano investing in and possibly acquiring the Dublin club.

Di Stefano became a director of Dundee Football Club in 1999, signing players such as Fabrizio Ravanelli and Craig Burley on big wages before he left the club in acrimonious circumstances in 2004.

Dundee were relegated from the SPL the following season, after finishing bottom of the league.
