Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon has given his backing to Vladimir Romanov and is convinced the ruthless majority shareholder will continue to take the club forward.

The Scotland international believes the Lithuanian has been an asset to the Tynecastle club, despite sacking George Burley and Graham Rix already this season.

Gordon agreed a new contract yesterday and he expects more top signings to follow.

He said: "I believe in Mr Romanov's ideas for the club. I believe he will take us forward. He has taken us forward in the season he has been in charge.

"I fully expect us to continue improving. He will continue to help us sign more quality players."

The 23-year-old has now penned a two-year extension to his current contract, keeping him at the club until 2009.

He added: "As you can imagine, I am delighted because I am an Edinburgh boy and a Hearts supporter. This is where I wanted to play my football. I am very focused on the main aim - which is to bring silverware and success to Hearts."
