Tommy Barrett notched the only goal of the game as Limerick FC won 1-0 at Hogan Park tonight.
Barrett headed home a 20 minute Colm Heffernan corner on an evening when the home side created the majority of scoring opportunities.
Heffernan, Robbie Kelleher, Kevin Waters and John Lester all went close in either half but could not double their side’s advantage at the Rathbane venue.
United, who were reduced to ten men when defender Darren Sargent received a straight red card for a foul on Anthony Woulfe after 90 minutes, almost levelled when Robbie Smith hit the crossbar just past the hour mark.
