Republic of Ireland Under 17 manager Sean McCaffrey has today named an 18-strong squad to face Israel, Romania and Serbia & Montenegro for the UEFA Championships Elite phase which will be held in Dublin this month.
The Republic of Ireland will be looking to build on their recent success in last months Algarve quadrangular tournament where the Irish finished in 2nd place in a group which included France, Holland and Portugal.
Nottingham Forest trainee, Shane Redmond returns to the squad after some impressive displays in the Algarve where he was named goalkeeper of the tournament after conceding just one goal in three games.
Ireland eased past the 1st qualifying round of the UEFA Championship in Ukraine in a group which included Italy, Latvia and hosts Ukraine after an impressive 2-1 win over Ukraine, a 2-2 draw with Italy which was followed up by a 2-0 against Latvia.
This Elite phase consists of seven groups of four teams, with the winner of each group joining the hosts, Luxembourg for the final tournament in May.
