Alan Shearer returns to the Newcastle squad for the visit of Bolton on Saturday

Newcastle captain Alan Shearer returns to the Newcastle squad for tomorrow's Barclays Premiership clash with Bolton.

The 35-year-old has missed the last three matches with a calf injury and will have a late fitness test but caretaker boss Glenn Roeder is hopeful he will be able to return.

Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble are both progressing well as they recover from hamstring injuries but they - and Craig Moore, who is back in training after a similar problem - will not be considered.

Michael Owen (foot), Stephen Carr (hernia), Steven Taylor (shoulder) are still out.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is hoping to welcome El-Hadji Diouf back into the fold for the Barclays Premiership trip to Newcastle.

The Senegal striker has made a rapid recovery from a double hernia operation and may find himself on the bench at St James' Park as the Trotters look to record their first away win on Tyneside since 1959 and enhance their Champions League claims.

Allardyce will take a late check on the fitness of his nine internationals but Matt Jansen (knee) has already been ruled out and Nicky Hunt is suspended.
