The Republic of Ireland squad trained for the first time under new manager Steve Staunton this evening in Malahide.

Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny had to withdrawing having picked up a knock over the weekend

A slight calf-injury kept Reading striker Kevin Doyle out of the action, but he is expected to be available for his senior international debut for Wednesday's game against Sweden at Lansdowne Road.

Steve Finnan, Richard Dunne, John O'Shea and Graham Kavanagh took no part in training having played yesterday.

The new Irish captain will be announced tomorrow.
