Australian striker Paul Connell joined Premier Division champions Cork City yesterday, just a few months after e-mailing the Leesiders looking for a trial.
Cork City Secretary Gerry Harris confirmed to RTÉ Online that Connell would sign a one-year deal at Turner Cross pending international clearance.
The 18-year-old, who has played with four Australian clubs, has been on trial with the City over the last few weeks and scored in a recent 4-0 friendly win over Kinsale.
'Paul e-mailed the club looking for a trial a few months ago and we invited him over and he has made a big impression and has been offered a one year contract,' said Harris.
'We are awaiting international clearance from the Australian FA before the deal is fully completed but I don't anticipate that there will be any problems,' he added.
Meanwhile, RTÉ will broadcast the Cork City v Bohemians eircom League game from Turner’s Cross on Friday March 24. They game will kick-off at 8.05pm and will be broadcast on RTÉ2.
