Norwegian striker Azar Karadas struck with five minutes left to rescue a point for relegation-haunted Portsmouth in a 1-1 draw against Bolton at Fratton Park.
Substitute Karadas, signed on loan from Benfica last summer, found the target in the 85th minute with a right-foot volley finish from a cross from new signing Wayne Routledge.
Khalilou Fadiga converted a 35-yard free-kick which had been awarded for a foul by Matthew Taylor on Stelios Giannakopoulos in the 69th minute to put Bolton in front. But the result left Fadiga ruing an earlier missed penalty.
Goalkeeper Dean Kiely was punished for bringing down Stelios but Fadiga could only steer his spot-kick wide of the mark on the stroke of half-time.
Pompey coach Harry Redknapp rushed Zimbabwe striker Benjani Mwaruwari back into the line up despite just having returned from the African Cup of Nations.
But the home side proved no real threat early on and Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen had a relatively untroubled time while, at the other end, Matt Jansen was playing all alone up front.
The visitors should have taken the lead just before the break. Stelios went down under Kiely's challenge but there was enough to convince referee Dermot Gallagher that it merited a penalty. However, Fadiga blasted the ball into the crowd.
Portsmouth fell behind with 21 minutes remaining - a moment that Kiely will want to forget.
Stelios was upended by Matthew Taylor out wide and there seemed little danger as Fadiga swung the ball into the area but the Portsmouth keeper, making his home debut, was unable to prevent the ball creeping inside the far post.
Pompey, however, saved themselves with time running put. Routledge managed to find enough space to fire a cross into the near post and Karadas, who had only been on a few minutes as a sub, flicked a right-foot volley in at the near post.
