Portsmouth will hand debuts to new signings Sean Davis, Pedro Mendes and Noe Pamarot against Everton, but are waiting to hear whether £4.1million striker Benjani Mwaruwari is available.

The Zimbabwean has completed his club record move but may have to report to his country for African Nations Cup duty.

Frenchman Pamarot is expected to replace suspended Dejan Stefanovic at centre-back with Jamie Ashdown likely to return in goal after three weeks out with a back injury.

Meanwhile, Joseph Yobo will play his final game for Everton before flying off to join up with the Nigeria squad preparing for the African Nations Cup.

His country wanted the centre-back to report for international duty earlier but a week of treatment on a shoulder injury has got the 25-year-old back to fitness and the Nigeria FA have given permission for him to play at Fratton Park.

Everton boss David Moyes has doubts over Duncan Ferguson (illness) and Mikel Arteta and Nigel Martyn (both ankle). Lee Carsley and Gary Naysmith, who had reserve run-outs in midweek after long injury absences, are unlikely to be involved.

Provisional Everton squad: Wright, Hibbert, Yobo, Ferrari, Weir, Kroldrup, Nuno Valente, Kilbane, Osman, Neville, Cahill, Davies, Arteta, McFadden, Bent, Beattie, Martyn, Turner, Arteta, Ferguson.

Portsmouth team (from): Ashdown, Westerveld, Primus, Pamarot, O'Brien, Taylor, Priske, Griffin, O'Neil, Hughes, Mendes, Davis, Diao, LuaLua, Benjani, Todorov, Cisse, Vignal.
