Egyptian striker Mido has told Roma he will not be returning to the club as he seeks to join Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis.

The striker, currently enjoying an 18-month loan with Tottenham from the Serie A side, wants to remain with Martin Jol's side after the summer.

Roma have already revealed that Spurs have made the first moves towards signing the player on a long term deal but the Italians also asked Mido if he would consider returning.

But Mido, who will play against Liverpool this weekend before flying off to link up with his country for the African Nations Cup, immediately dismissed the chance of returning to Roma.

He explained: "Roma wanted me to come back to help them in Serie A but I refused because as I said before I want to stay at Tottenham.

I am pleased to be playing with friends like Robbie Keane and Edgar Davids who are stars for the club and their countries.

My relationship with the manager is good. I feel my experience at Spurs is successful and I am really happy with it, because since a young age I've always wanted to play in the English Premier League. I feel this is the best and most important experience for me."

Roma revealed that Spurs have already taken the first steps towards granting Mido's wish to stay in north London.

The club's sporting director Daniele Prade admitted: "Mido is doing good things in England and we are happy for him. Tottenham want to buy him, but it's a problem we will face in June. In a short time, we will talk with his agent to understand his intentions."
