Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano is recovering after undergoing heart bypass surgery yesterday morning.

The 79-year-old honorary club president, a star of Real's legendary team from the late 1950s, had a heart attack on Christmas Eve.

Di Stefano inspired Madrid to win five consecutive European Cups from 1956 to 1960, netting in each final, including a hat-trick in the fifth.

He was named European Footballer of the Year on two occasions.
