Alex Ferguson believes Nemanja Vidic will be a fine addition to his squad

Alex Ferguson expects defender Nemanja Vidic to be a 'terrific addition' to his Manchester United squad when the formalities are completed to bring the defender to Old Trafford.

United have agreed a fee with Spartak Moscow for the highly rated Serbia & Montenegro international defender.

The 24-year-old Vidic has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe after informing the Russian side of his intention to quit the club during next month's transfer window.

"I am delighted the two clubs have come to an agreement," said Ferguson. "Nemanja is a quick, aggressive centre-half and at 24 will be a terrific addition to the squad."

Although Champions League holders Liverpool and Serie A outfit Fiorentina both expressed an interest in the centre-back, United were able to pull off the coup.

The fee remains undisclosed but is believed to be around the £7million mark, with Vidic set to fly into Manchester to discuss personal terms and have his medical.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has dismissed speculation about his future and insists he is as committed as ever to achieving success at Old Trafford.

Fears have been growing that the Scot's 19-year reign at United could be about to end following a patchy start to the season.

United trail table-toppers Chelsea by nine points and disastrously failed to progress past the group stage in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Fergie declared: "One thing you can be certain of is that, despite some people suggesting my time is up as manager of United, I'm determined to carry on and will stay until I am happy this club is back on track.

"It won't be easy because the standard in the Premiership is higher than it has ever been, not just at the top with Chelsea but all the way down to the teams fighting to stay up."
