Alex Ferguson's players come in for criticism from Bobby Charlton

Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton has questioned the current squad's motivation after they were dumped out of Europe earlier in the month.

United have only the Carling Cup and the FA Cup to go for although they are making a determined bid to catch Chelsea in the league.

Charlton said: "I'm certain Alex Ferguson will put his thinking cap on and work out why it happened, how it happened and how we can put it right.

"I really don't know what it was. I wish I did. Maybe the opposition did not motivate the players, I really don't know.

"United do not have a divine right to qualify. Hopefully the players  will learn from the experience and they will look back at this season and remember what can happen if you don't give it 100%."
