Tottenham look to have won the race to sign a Dutch defender dubbed the new Jaap Stam.
AZ Alkmaar last night claimed their centre-half Ron Vlaar was on his way to White Hart Lane. Vlaar, who turns 21 on January 16, has already held talks with Spurs, according to AZ.
They issued a statement which read: “AZ have reached agreement with Tottenham Hotspur concerning the transfer of Ron Vlaar to the London club. Ron Vlaar has spoken to the English club. In the coming days he will make a decision on his future.”
Tottenham already have England international Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Noureddine Naybet, Goran Bunjevcevic and Anthony Gardner in their squad, but Dutch manager Martin Jol has made it a priority to recruit young talent since taking charge, making Vlaar an attractive signing.
