Lopez Caro began his post as temporary Real Madrid manager today as club vice-president Emilio Butragueno left open the possibility of another managerial change soon if the current situation at the club does not improve.
Butragueno told Real Madrid’s official website www.realmadrid.com that Ramon will only hold the job provisionally while the directors decide on who will take the club into the future.
He said: "We want to reflect on things and make a definitive decision in the next few weeks. Lopez Caro has the job provisionally until the directors make another decision."
Real are fourth in the Primera Liga and six points behind leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona. In the Champions League they have already booked a spot in the last sixteen of the competition.
Lopez Caro had been in charge of Real's B side Castilla before being appointed successor to Wanderley Luxemburgo yesterday. He has never coached in the top flight until now but is confident he can breathe new life into the club whose feats on the field have not always matched its high profile off it.
Fabio Capello, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Rafael Benitez, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Guus Hiddink have already been linked with a move to Madrid.
