Veteran West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham has risked the ire of Celtic supporters by claiming that Roy Keane is too good to join the Bhoys.

The Scottish Premier League pacesetters are hot favourites to land the 34-year-old midfielder following his shock recent departure from Old Trafford.

However, Sheringham believes Keane would be better served by finding another Premiership club and would love to see the former Republic of Ireland international join him at Upton Park.

"I would love Roy Keane here at West Ham. He's a fantastic footballer and would improve our team tenfold," Sheringham said.

"I think he has at least two years left at the top so it would be a big blow to the Premiership if he leaves now. I would certainly be very surprised if he goes to Celtic.

"He's far too good to go up into the Scottish League. It would be a waste of an amazing talent. I actually think he might surprise us all and join a club in the top five or six - and if he does he will push them up into Europe.

"And there's been a lot of speculation linking him with clubs at the bottom of the table too. I really think if one of those clubs did get him it would guarantee them survival," the West Ham striker added.
