Vikings plunder place in Premier Division

Dublin City have won promotion to the Premier Division and relegated Shamrock Rovers for the first time in their illustrious history following a 1-1 draw at Tolka Park. The first leg proved decisive with City prevailing 2-1 and 3-2 on aggregate. 

Rovers dominated the first half but couldn't convert their advantage into goals.

Dublin City started the second half with a greater sense of urgency and opened the scoring on 55 minutes when Robbie Collins slotted home from six yards after a goal mouth scramble.

But Rovers rallied and Derek Tracey fired home a Mark Rutherford cross from ten yards just two minutes later.

Dublin City then weathered sustained Rovers pressure as Gavin McDonnell and Tracey both went close to secure that most sought after of prizes – Premier Division football.
