Tottenham Hotspur manager Marton Jol has hit out at West Ham United supporters for their racist abuse of Egyptian striker Mido.

The player, who scored Spurs' only goal in a 1-1 draw against The Hammers yesterday, was racially taunted by sections of the visiting support.

Jol said: "Was it tasteless? Yes. Our fans gave Teddy Sheringham a marvellous reception on his return and that is the way we deal with things here."

Mido had scored the opener before Anton Ferdinand's last-gasp header rescued a point at White Hart Lane yesterday.

Spurs right-back Paul Stalteri does not expect Mido to be affected by the abuse.

"It is nonsense. It does not belong in sport and it's a form of racism," Stalteri said.

"I don't think he will be affected by it. He scored a great goal so he has given them the right answer."
