Ellington on the double for Brom

Nathan Ellington broke his Premiership scoring duck as he netted two of West Brom’s four goals in a vital 4-0 home win over Everton.

Bryan Robson's summer capture from Wigan opened the scoring with a controversial penalty and then produced a classy finish to end a run of three successive league defeats.

Ellington’s strikes, on 45 and 69 minutes sandwiched a Neil Clement effort six minutes into the second half.

Kanu could have inflicted further misery on Everton when he met a right-wing cross from Greening but he sent his header straight at a relieved Nigel Martyn.

Sub Robert Earnshaw then completed the rout with a tap in seconds before the final whistle.

Robson had urged his side to tighten up at the back and start taking their chances after being pleased with their general play in recent matches.

And the former England captain would have been delighted to see Albion keep their first clean sheet since the opening game of the season and score three times at home in the Premiership for the first time.

Ellington left the pitch to a standing ovation,  and to be greeted by a beaming Robson, when he was replaced by Earnshaw with six minutes remaining.
