Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez must assess the fitness of John Arne Risse and Harry Kewell ahead of the clash with Pompey

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez will have to assess the fitness of two of his midweek World Cup play-off performers before deciding on the side to face Portsmouth in the Premiership at Anfield tomorrow.

John Arne Riise returned from Norway's defeat by the Czech Republic with a gashed head, but he has trained with the Liverpool squad and could be fit but Harry Kewell - fresh from helping Australia reach the finals - was not due to arrive back from Sydney until this afternoon.

Luis Garcia, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Morientes and Jose Reina all returned to the club yesterday after helping Spain qualify for Germany and are expected to be fit.

Portsmouth skipper Dejan Stefanovic misses the trip with an ankle problem which could require surgery but Irish international defender Andy O'Brien is fit to replace him after two games out with a knee injury.

Manager Alain Perrin will run late checks on Uruguay striker Dario Silva and Serbia & Montenegro midfielder Zvonimir Vukic. Bulgarian Svetoslav Todorov has already been ruled out, however.

Collins Mbesuma is in line for his full debut up front while Lomana Lualua will almost certainly figure at some stage after making an impressive recovery from malaria, but midfielder Salif Diao, on loan from Liverpool, will not play under the terms of his temporary transfer.

Liverpool squad: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Riise, Traore, Warnock, Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Sissoko, Hamann, Luis Garcia, Zenden, Morientes, Crouch, Cisse, Kewell, Carson, Sinama-Pongolle.

Portsmouth squad: Ashdown; Griffin, Priske, Primus, O'Brien, Vignal, Taylor, O'Neil, Vukic, Robert, Viafara, Lualua, Mbesuma, Songo'o, Mornar, Silva, Karadas, Cisse, Skopelitis, Westerveld.
