Jonathan Woodgate admits he was 'furious' at suffering another injury that will keep him out of action for a month.
The Real Madrid defender broke down with a hamstring injury during the clash with Real Zaragoza at the weekend and will now miss the game with Barcelona in a fortnight, as well as the chance of returning to the England squad for their friendly with Argentina.
Woodgate was playing his fourth game in 12 days and had been doubtful in the days prior to the match after finishing last Tuesday's Champions League game against Rosenborg with a minor calf problem.
The 25-year-old would probably have been rested against Zaragoza but with Ivan Helguera and Thomas Gravesen injured and Pablo Garcia suspended, coach Wanderley Luxemburgo opted to play central defender Sergio Ramos in midfield.
The Real coach also decided that despite his problems, Woodgate should start ahead of Alvaro Mejia, but he suffered a torn hamstring inside 23 minutes.
"It's a real shame not to be able to carry on playing because I was getting the rhythm of the competition and feeling comfortable on the pitch,” Woodgate told the club website, www.Realmadrid.com.
"I thought 'not again!', and I felt angry and furious, but everyone around me really helped.
"I was very sad because I had to leave the team. I wanted to play against Zaragoza and against Barcelona, because that is a game any player wants to take part in.
Woodgate added: "Fortunately the injury has nothing to do with the other one (the thigh problem which kept him out of action for 18 months).
"That is important for me, because I can see I have totally recovered from that."
