Next weekend's eircom League game involving Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic has been moved to Saturday, November 12 and will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2 television. Kick off is at 5.00pm.
It is understood representatives of the Derry City Board of Directors met with FAI Chief Executive John Delaney and the eircom League executive over the weekend to discuss the controversy.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, November 11 but the league then ordered the match be played on Monday, November 14.
Given the fact that Derry faced a 600 miles round trip to play their
final match against Cork City the following Friday, the northern club refused to stage the game on that date.
Derry argued that they did not receive the necessary 16 days notice to switch the fixture and, in any case, the Brandywell Greyhound Racing Company have exclusive use of the Stadium on Monday nights.
And while attempts were made to have the match played next Sunday afternon, Derry again reject that move as they believed the could be potentially playing for the league title at Turner's Cross the following Friday.
However, this weekend's meeting, which took place in Dublin before Derry's game against Bray last night, reached a compromise with the match now set for Saturday next with a 5.00pm kick-off.
St Patrick’s Athletic will run an official supporters’ bus to the game. Details are available from the club on 4546332.
