Shelbourne recorded a five-nil hammering of Bray Wanderers in the eircom Premier Division tonight but, with Cork and Derry winning as well, their title is surely gone.
Byrne opened the scoring on 36 minutes from a penalty, with the game up for Bray in first half stoppage time following the sending off of Stephen Gifford for a bad challenge on Bobby Ryan.
Byrne set up Dave Rogers for Shels' second on 66 minutes to end the game as a contest.
The flood gates then opened as Shels scored three times in as many minutes. Byrne completed his hat-trick with a brace in quick succession from the 76th minute with Glen Crowe tapping in the fifth.
