RESULT: Cyprus 0 - 1 Ireland

92mins: A nervy game ends with a victory for the men in green, but the manner in which the points were earned will give more confidence to the Swiss than to the Irish.

89mins: David Connolly's first touch is to hoof the ball back to Cyprus who embark on another attack only to be caught offside.

88mins: Robbie Keane is substituted for David Connolly just after the Tallaght man fails to make anything of a high ball that drops in front of him in the box.

85mins: Ireland play keep-ball and a long ball into Elliott wins a throw. Possession is, however, surrendered cheaply once again.

83mins: Cyprus still look dangerous as Alonefits skins Stephen Carr twice, with the first cross punched to safety by Given and the second trickling through a forest of legs before being cleared.

81mins: Stephen Reid is fouled by Garpozis as Ireland continue to attack and try to close the game out. The free kick is wasted by Graham Kavanagh.

80mins: Stephen Elliott does really well to shake off his man and his cross to Robbie Keane is cut out with Keane in plenty of space. Though the attack comes to nothing, it is a much more positive sign from Ireland.

77mins: A ball from Elliott finds Robbie Keane in acres of space but Keane's touch takes him away from goal and allows Louka to get back to cover and tip the ball away from an open goal with the keeper stranded.

74mins: Cyprus signal their intent as the defender Elia is replaced by Maragos, a midfielder who will surely have been told to capitalise on the lack of composure in Ireland's midfield.

72mins: Ireland are living by their nerves as Cyprus continue to attack, hardly looking like a team with only four points in the group. Ireland's defence and midfield are surrendering possession in an alarming fashion as the minutes tick away.

69mins: Okkas is replaced by Yiasoumi as Cyprus look to freshen their attack.

63mins: Lambrou gets a yellow card for pushing Robbie Keane as Ireland get a corner which is flapped at badly by the Cypriot keeper Panagiotou. No Ireland player can capitalise on the mistake. Another chance missed.

60mins: Duff goes straight to the dressing room for attention as Stephen Reid replaces him.

59mins: Duff is clearly labouring with a knee injury as, during a break in play, he falls to the ground. He refuses attention from the physio, but clearly cannot continue for much longer.

58mins: A Damien Duff free-kick whistles tantalisingly close to three Irish heads but passes across the front of the goal and out. A definite chance missed.

52mins: Okkas, who has gone quiet in the last twenty minutes, is given a yellow card for a nasty lunge on Stephen Carr.

49mins: Ireland seem more composed in the early stages of the second-half, though their attacks lack the necessary incision.

46mins: Ireland start positively as a cross from the left finds Robbie Keane who tries the spectacular volley but fails to connect properly.

45mins: Matt Holland replaces Steve Finnan in the Irish team and Brian Kerr re-jiggs the Irish side as the second-half begins.

HALF-TIME

44mins: Shay Given's kick out leads to a throw-in which finds Damien Duff. Duff's cross finds no one but Robbie Keane throws himself to the ground theatrically as a rare Irish attack breaks down.

39mins: Ireland are once again at sixes and sevens in the defence as the ball breaks out to Okkas whose brilliant shot requires an equally brilliant save from Shay Given, with the Newcastle 'keeper on top form. Ireland are still on the back foot as Cyprus dictate the pace.

30mins: Ireland's defence continues to look shaky as Constantinou easily turns John O'Shea inside-out only for his cross to trickle into Given's hands.

25mins: Kenny Cunningham is caught out twice in quick succession by Okkas as the Cypriot continues to provide the most danger for Ireland's brittle defence. On both occasions the Cyprus attack comes to naught.

21mins: Graham Kavanagh is booked for a foul at the other end of the field as Ireland allow a promising attack break down. The free, however, is ballooned over the bar.

18mins: Okkas proves to be the most dangerous player on the pitch as the Irish defence is carved open far too easily and Stephen Carr is forced to come to the rescue. Ireland look shapeless and leaderless.

17mins: Once again it is Given to the rescue as more calamities around the Irish box result in a shot from Cyprus that the Donegal man has to stretch to save.

13mins: Shay Given pulls off a magnificent save from Okkas' penalty after Richard Dunne fouled in the box. Cyprus enjoying the best of the play and causing chaos in the Irish box.

11mins: The Irish goal is living a charmed life, as Shay Given saves with his feet when Kenny Cunningham fails to deal adequately with a Cyprus attack.

5mins - GOAL: Stephen Elliott pokes home in the box for the first goal of the game and his first goal as a senior Ireland international after a scramble in the box as Ireland's pressure pays off.

1min: Ireland start the game in a high tempo, raiding the Cypriot goal.
