Donal McDermott and Terry Dixon scored the goals as Sean McCaffrey’s U-17s beat Latvia in Kiev this afternoon to make it through to the 'elite' qualifying stage of the UEFA Championships.
With Italy and Ukraine drawing 2-2, it means Ireland top the group with Italy going through as runners-up.
Ireland, needing only a draw to qualify, never looked back once left winger McDermott gave them a 39th minute lead. Spurs striker Dixon added the second on 64 minutes.
