Derry City extended their unbeaten run to a remarkable 19 games at a breezy Brandywell tonight, defeating Longford Town 3-1.

And Longford will have no complaints with this defeat as the home side dominated this affair to remain in touch with Cork City at the summit of the Premier Division table.

Derry broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when Paddy McCourt netted his first goal for his home town club.

And the hard-working Gareth McGlynn made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when he beat the Longford offside trip to sqeeze the ball home.

Stephen Kenny's men ended the match as a contest in the 64th minute when McGlynn grabbed a second having been sent clear by Gary Beckett.

With five minutes remaining, Longford grabbed a consolation when substitute, Alan Cawley, curled a superb free to the net.
