Mexico qualify after pounding Panama

Bolton striker Jared Borgetti netted from the penalty spot as Mexico booked their passage to next year's World Cup finals with a 5-0 thrashing of Panama in the latest round of CONCACAF qualifiers.

Mexico joined already-qualified USA on 19 points at the top of the standings, six points clear of third-placed Costa Rica.

Although they were in charge from the start against Panama, Mexico only led by Luis Perez's goal at the midway point.

However it was a different story after the break as Mexico turned their superiority into goals with captain Rafael Marquez, Borgetti, Pavel Pardo and Francisco Fonseca all finding the back of the net.
