Limerick FC have boosted their promotion hopes with the capture of ex-Leeds United striker Chris Jones.

The twenty-year-old Welsh U/19 and U/20 international put pen to paper with the Blues until the end of the season and Limerick have an agreed option to sign him for another two seasons.

Jones has made a number of appearances for Leeds United in the Championship and was on loan with Bournemouth when he was snapped up by the Shannonsiders.

The signing arrives exactly a week after former Aston Villa ace John McGrath snubbed three English clubs to put pen to paper with the eircom First Division high fliers.

Limerick born McGrath, who made his Premiership debut for Villa against Chelsea on New Years Day  2001, is expected to be available for selection for this Thursdays trip to take on Dundalk.

Jones who is signed in time for the clash with the Lilywhites has to return to England however  but will be back in Limerick, where he will be based, in time for the Blues home clash with Galway on September 9th.

According to Limerick FC Chairman Danny Drew they are delighted to have secured  Jones services and they are now looking forward to the last twelve games of the season with confidence.

"Limerick FC are absolutely delighted to have signed Chris Jones. He is a top class striker and everyone at the club is looking forward to working with him in the coming weeks", said Drew.

"I would see the signing of John McGrath and Chris Jones as a serious signal of intent on our part. I have said all along that our ambition is to return this club to the Premier Division", he added.
