West Brom have agreed a £3million deal with Wigan for striker Nathan Ellington.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace confirmed terms have been finalised with the Latics for the 24-year-old.

Ellington, who has scored 67 goals in 146 appearances for Wigan, has agreed personal terms and also passed a medical.

Albion were entitled to speak to Ellington, who is in the final year of his current deal, once they had made a £3million offer for the player.

Peace said: "Nathan Ellington is excited about becoming a West Brom player. We agreed all the terms last night with Wigan and we shall be concluding the deal on Monday morning."

Ellington has not proved himself at Premiership level but Albion manager Bryan Robson has every faith in his ability.

He said: "He is a quality player and he has a good goalscoring record and you cannot get too many strikers."

Robson now has Ellington, Kevin Campbell, Kanu, Geoff Horsfield and Rob Earnshaw at his disposal.

It became clear that Ellington's days with Wigan were numbered once he refused to sign a new contract.
