Middlesbrough are in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon after making an approach to sign exciting Cameroon international Rudolphe Douala.
It is understood the club, who publicly confirmed their interest in the 27-year-old for the first time today, have already had one bid knocked back by the Portuguese club.
But the situation is ongoing and manager Steve McLaren hopes it can be finalised before the transfer window closes.
"We made an approach and had talks and we've come away from it. It's still ongoing," McLaren told the club's official website. "I'm very happy with the squad we've got and if we can add to it I'll be even more delighted."
