The Republic of Ireland Under-17s scooped the Nordic Cup in Reykjavik this afternoon with an inspired 2-0 victory over England.

Sean McCaffrey's charges made a bright start and took the lead when Tom Lyons volleyed home a sublime cross from the industrious Karl Byrne. 

Killian Sheridan breached the England rearguard in the dying minutes and slotted home Ireland's second to complete a memorable evening.

Manager Sean McCaffrey said: “It is a great achievement for everyone. I think we had the tactical edge on England in what was a very tight game.”
