Newcastle look to be close to a deal to bring Italian full-back Francesco Coco to St James' Park from Inter Milan after the defender flew into Tyneside to hold talks with the Magpies.

It is not yet clear if the move will be a permanent or loan deal, but manager Graeme Souness is eager to add to his defensive options ahead of the new Premiership season.
