Greek international defender Nikos Dabizas have indicated his desire to join Celtic by issuing a 'come and get me' plea to Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan.

The former Newcastle and Leicester player is on the look out for a new club after a move to Anderlecht fell through.

And with the Hoops having conceded nine goals in their first two matches, Strachan has made it clear that improving his defensive options is one of his top priorities before the transfer window shuts.

Dabizas said: " My agent has told me there might be the possibility of something with Celtic and I am available. If it was to become official then I would be delighted - it would be a great move for me."

" Celtic are a massive club and I know Strachan. He is one of the most respected people in football," the defender added.

Birmingham defender Martin Taylor is also believed to be in Strachan's sights and although he would be more costly at around £1million, at 25 he has youth on his side.

China international Du Wei is currently on trial so Strachan is not short of options, although Bobo Balde, a stalwart of the Martin O'Neill era, is attracting interest from Marseille and has an escape clause in his contract that can allow him to leave for free.

Birmingham are also interested in Balde, having had him watched during Celtic's 4-0 European victory over Artmedia Bratislava on Tuesday.
