Liverpool's planning for the new season suffered a setback on Wednesday when their seven million pound striker Peter Crouch was ruled out for up to three weeks because of a hamstring strain.

The 24-year-old picked up the injury during the 2-0 victory over FBK Kaunas in the Champions League second qualifying round yesterday.

Crouch is definitely out of next week's Champions League third qualifying round match.

The striker is also suspended for Liverpool's opening two Premiership games against Middlesbrough and Sunderland following on from a red card he received playing for Southampton last season.
