Tottenham have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Dutch star Edgar Davids on a free transfer from Inter Milan.
The Dutch international has finalised terms with the White Hart Lane club and now comes into the reckoning for Saturday's friendly encounter with Porto.
" I know everybody is very excited, he is a big player and the one we wanted," Jol told official website www.spurs.co.uk. "Edgar Davids is probably one of the most successful players of the last decade."
"He has played for five of the biggest clubs in Europe and he wants to play for Spurs. All of our players are ambitious and know why we have brought Edgar in - because both mentally and physically we need to go up a step or two."
Jol has invested in youth since taking charge last season, with plenty expected of Wayne Routledge, Aaron Lennon and Irish international ace Andy Reid in midfield next season.
But Davids is set to provide some much-needed experience to the Spurs midfield, and he will probably line up next to England international Michael Carrick.
Spurs had been interested in signing Davids, who has won 73 caps for Holland and played in four Champions League finals, for a number of years but with little success before now, despite the fact that the player claims to be a boyhood Tottenham fan.
