Shaka Hislop has rejoined West Ham on a one-year contract.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper was released by Portsmouth last season and will now provide cover for fellow summer signing Roy Carroll, who joined the Hammers after leaving Manchester United, at Upton Park.
Another goalkeeper, Jimmy Walker, is expected to out of action until Christmas after injuring his knee in the play-off final.
Hislop made over 130 appearances for the club between 1998 and 2002, and he said: "It is great to be going back to West Ham."
The Trinidadian fell out of favour at Fratton Park following the departure of Harry Redknapp midway through last season.
He told Stellargroup: "It was a strange situation last season, I felt as though I was playing as well as I had done for a while, but sometimes when a new manager comes in he has different ideas and it was pretty clear I wouldn't be staying at the club beyond the end of the season.
"Now I am just looking forward to getting the boots back on again and competing for a place in the side."
