Eircom League champions Shelbourne will face a difficult task of reaching the group stages of the Champions League should they overcome Romania's Steaua Bucharest in the second qualifying round.
This morning's draw in Lyon pitted the winners of Shels and Steaua against Norwegian champions Rosenborg, who disposed of Bohemians in the second qualifying round in the summer of 2003.
Rosenborg won a tight first leg 1-0 at Dalymount Park but secured a comfortable 4-0 victory at home to ease through to the third round.
Shels have met the Norwegians in this competition once before, losing 3-2 over two legs in the summer of 2000. Rosenborg, who have dominated their domestic league for the last 13 years, won the first leg 2-1 at home but drew 1-1 in Norway, with Richie Foran scoring both goals.
Shelbourne have put themselves in an excellent position of making the next round after holding the Romanian champions to a 0-0 draw at a packed Tolka Park last Wednesday night.
The return in Bucharest next Wednesday will provide a stiffer test for Pat Fenlon's men, who fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Deportivo La Coruna last season having held them scoreless at Lansdowne Road in the first leg.
Wednesday's match will be televised live on RTÉ Two.
