Hernan Crespo considered quitting soccer after his disastrous first season at Chelsea.

The Argentine star scored Chelsea's winner as Jose Mourinho's side warmed up for the new season with a 2-1 win over DC United in Washington.

But Crespo has revealed how low he got after his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Crespo joined Chelsea under previous boss Claudio Ranieri for £16.8million in August 2003, but joined AC Milan on loan last summer after a disappointing first season in the Barclays Premiership.

The 30-year-old has been persuaded to give Chelsea a second chance under Ranieri's successor Mourinho.

"Depressed is a big word but when I finished the season I thought seriously about not playing again," said Crespo, who highlighted problems off the pitch and a lack of support from the club.

"I had personal problems. I was looking for an apartment, my English is not good.

"It was even a problem trying to use my phone because I couldn't explain what I wanted. It was a problem for me to sign a contract for a house.

"There was nobody to help me.

"And when you change your country, don't speak the language and you feel alone, it's the worst thing."
