Derry teach UCD a lesson

Two goals by midfielder Ciaran Martyn helped Derry City maintain their Premier Division challenge following a 3-0 win over UCD at the Brandywell.

Derry broke the deadlock in the 27th minute following a superb goal by young striker Mark Farren.

A long ball out of defence from Clive Delaney cleared the head of UCD full-back Mick O'Donnell and when the ball broke to Farren he steadied himself before accurately driving home from 16 yards.

Stephen Kenny's side continued where they left off when they stunned the
students within 38 seconds of the restart.

Straight from the kick-off, Beckett sent Gareth McGlynn scampering down the right and when he crossed the ball into the danger area the advancing Ciaran Martyn rose majestically to head the ball beyond the reach of UCD keeper Darren Quigley.

Derry ended the game as a contest in the 85th minute when the excellent Martyn scored his second goal of the night against his former club when he headed Sean Hargan's cross firmly home.
