Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has ended his pursuit of Wolves striker Kenny Miller after having two bids rejected.
The Black Cats tabled a £1million offer for the 25-year-old Scottish international earlier in the summer and then improved it to around £1.2million.
Wolves turned down both approaches, insisting that manager Glenn Hoddle wants to keep Miller who remains on the transfer list at his own request.
Despite suggestions that an offer of around £2million could persuade Wolves to unload a player who scored 20 goals last season, McCarthy today revealed he has dropped out of the race.
"We made a bid, it has been turned down and that is it," he said.
"We are not planning on going back and offering any more money, so as far as I am concerned, it is finished with."
McCarthy has already spent almost £2million on strikers since Sunderland's promotion was confirmed, bringing in Blackburn's Jon Stead and Waterford's Daryl Murphy.
