Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Portsmouth striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu after he was granted a work permit on appeal.
The £7.5million Nigerian was given permission to move to Boro after the club won their appeal, following an initial rejection, and the Teessiders announced that the 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal.
Yakubu had his first application for a permit automatically rejected last week because of his lack of international appearances over the last two years.
Yakubu, who 29 goals in 68 Premiership appearances for Pompey, was due to become a Boro player on Friday, but the work permit problems delayed the formalities.
He trained with his new team-mates as they returned to work today, and is expected to fly out to the Algarve on Wednesday when McClaren takes his squad away for a week's training in the sun.
The development came as a boost to the club in the wake of Boudewijn Zenden's departure to Liverpool.
