Hearts appoint Burley

Hearts have appointed George Burley as their new head coach.

The former Derby and Ipswich manager succeeds John Robertson, who resigned from the club last month.

The 49-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Edinburgh club and will take up his position officially tomorrow.

Burley, who is also a former Ayr United manager and Motherwell player-coach, declared he was delighted to be working in Scotland again, 11 years after last being employed north of the border.

Burley clinched the post following talks with chief executive Phil Anderton and major shareholder Vladimir Romanov.

The new Hearts boss said: "I've been very impressed with everything around the club and I share the ambition of Phil Anderton, the chairman and Mr Romanov.

"I believe we can be very successful here at Tynecastle, and I look forward to the excellent support I know we'll get from all the thousands of fans who follow Hearts."

Chairman George Foulkes welcomed the appointment, with Burley having been
chosen ahead of a number of other candidates, including ex-Parma coach Nevio
Scala.

He said: "We are delighted to be in a position to bring George to Hearts.

"His track record in management is outstanding, and bringing him here is a significant coup."
