Jason Byrne's 100th league goal, his 50th for Shelbourne, has moved the champions to within three points of leaders Cork City with a far from comfortable eircom Premier Division win.
Byrne struck on 48 minutes when Joseph Ndo won possession from Town skipper Barry Ferguson to play the pass and Byrne turned to fire past Stephen O’Brien.
A confident Town, who hadn’t conceded a goal in their previous seven games, were the better side for good spells, but couldn’t fine a way past an inspired Dean Delaney.
Delaney made a terrific double save to thwart Davy Byrne and Andy Myler in the first half before depriving Paul Keegan of what looked a certain equaliser on 57 minutes.
