Harps send Shams back to bottom

Finn Harps climbed off the bottom of the table as they recorded only their second league win of the season by beating by two goals to nil a Waterford side that has won only once in its last nine outings.

Waterford started brightly but Harps opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Kevin McHugh fired home from the edge of the box after a good build up on the right.

Stephen Yelverton forced Gavin Cullen into making a decent save at the other end before Harps’ Nigerian defender Eloka Asokuh connected with a Paddy McGrenaghan cross to make it 2-0 on 40 minutes.

Harps were rarely in danger of throwing their lead after the break and Gary Crossan and Breen both went close to adding to Harps' tally.

The final whistle did not signal the end of the action, however, as a row in the tunnel between the players that resulted in the sending-off of Alan Reynolds who struck a Harps player.
